Secrets of Advertising

             INTRODUCTION

Have you ever wondered why after watching a commercial, the next place you see yourself is at the store buying the product that you saw on t.v.?  Well, it is because of the secrets of advertising. They use many techniques that persuade you to buy the product they are advertising. The techniques they use are bandwagon, testimonials, name calling, card stacking, glittering generalities, transfer, snob appeal, and plain folks. The commercial I have chosen uses bandwagon to advertise a shoe. Bandwagon is when they create the impression that there is a widespread support for a thing or idea. The commercial also uses testimonial. Testimonial is when they use a celebrity to advertise a product. The commercial uses bandwagon by saying that if you have that shoe, you will be the fastest and you can always win. It is about an Adidas shoe called Crazyquick.

This commercial uses bandwagon to advertise a shoe. They use bandwagon by saying that if you have this shoe that you will be the fastest and always win. They use testimonial by using John Wall, Damian Lilard, and Jrue Holiday. Since basketball players are advertising a shoe, many people will think it is good and will want to buy it because basketball players know a lot about shoes.

              MY OPINION

I think that this commercial is one of my favorites because they really show how Crazyquick makes you a winner and can make you the fastest. It is easy to see the message that they are trying to get across to you. It made me want to buy that shoe when I see that the players in that video are quick and are doing all these crazy dunks and layups. I also really felt that I could be a winner with this shoe. They are implying that anyone who does not wear Crazyquick will be dominated by the opponent who does wear it. And I also like how they had someone rapping to tell us about the shoe and the advantages and perks it has. But it was not fast rapping where you cannot really understand what they are saying. It was a slow rap, so you could hear what they had to say about that shoe.

They also use Testimonial, which might also persuade someone to buy the product. I was convinced that the shoe was a great shoe because some of the best players in the NBA were wearing Crazyquick. Those people are John Wall, Damian Lilard, and Jrue Holiday. Usually when you see your favorite sports star or movie star or any celebrity that you like, there is a really big chance that you will buy that product. It also makes you think about how you could one day be a sports star or become really good with those shoes. Take John Wall for example. When you see an amazing player like him wearing those shoes, you think that if you wear those shoes, then you can become really good like John Wall, or any of the NBA players.

Question: Which one of these is your favorite commercial and why?

Commercials use different types of advertising techniques to promote their product. They use techniques such as bandwagon, glittering generalities, snob appeal, emotional appeal, card stacking, plain folks, and testimonials. The most popular technique commercials use are emotional appeal. My favorite type of commercials are the sports commercials that use testimonial.
